A School Where Students Play To Learn

At Emaan International School, our children both learn to play and play to learn. Playing is an effective way to learn and master new knowledge and skills. In fact, both the logical and the imaginative co-exist seamlessly in the minds of children. Unfortunately, this reality has not always been appreciated and understood by educationists. In the 1970s, some educationists warned of the dangers of the interaction of puppets and human beings in TV programmes. It was believed that such intermingling would cause children to be confused about what is real and imaginary. However, today, no one worries about this anymore because the interaction of puppets with real humans is common.

Play is a natural part of a child's life. At Emaan International School, we see its value and we protect children's playtime. To us, it is just a natural part of our schooling system.

Get To Know Mr Attry, The School Principal Of EIS

Mr Attry is the principal of Emaan International School. An honest and hardworking man, he works with his staff, helping them with everything he can. In fact, when the school just started, he did not shy away from doing some menial work. When asked why he was doing so, he replied, "Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, has shown us an excellent example. When the mosque in Medina was being built, he worked hard with the rest of the Muslims, although the people told him to rest. Leaders must work with their teams. That's what I think." Below are some photos of Mr Attry in late 2019, carrying some furniture and putting up banners.

Mr Attry Carrying A Table

The handsome school principal is one of the most approachable and patient persons you will meet. Always polite, he will make time for you whether you are a teacher, parent, student or even a stranger who comes without an appointment. Our students love him too. When a Primary 1 boy was asked what he wanted to be when he grows up, he responded without hesitation, "I want to be a school principal, like Mr Attry!"

With a Master Degree from International Islamic University Malaysia, Mr Attry speaks 5 languages – English, Khmer, Arabic, Malay and Cham! Wow! In a country where most Cambodians can only speak Khmer and the literacy rate is low, Mr Attry shows Cambodians that the mastery of languages is of strategic value. The mastery of English allows him to communicate with people all over the world. The mastery of Malay opens up education and employment opportunities in Malay-speaking countries like Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. Inspiring!

"You must use a language regularly. Otherwise you will forget the words. Alhamdulillah (God be praised), I am glad I have lots of friends that I can speak 5 languages to," Mr Attry laughs. The mastery of 5 languages is indeed a feat, and we hope that Mr Attry will be able to inspire the students at EIS to master new languages. Insha Allah (God willing).

Teacher Training During The Pandemic

Teachers Discussing During Group Work
Teaching is more to than just chalk and talk. It is a tough job. For this reason, the teachers at Emaan International School are regularly trained. From 6th to 9th July 2020, EIS teachers attended a teacher training programme by both Cambodian and Singapore trainers. This training programme is called Certificate In Basic Teaching Skills.

Participants Learning Novel Approach For 9 Time Tables

In this 4-day programme, teachers learned about cognitive development of children, Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, how to write effective lesson plans and many other things. We will share some insights from these workshops here soon.

As you can in the photograph below that the Singapore trainer, Mr Shaheed Salim, is using Zoom to train the participants. Co-trainers, Mr Piksry and Mr Hosen, were in Phnom Penh with the participants to ensure participation, comprehension and mastery of core concepts and skills taught.

If you are a teacher or an adult interested in this teacher training programme, which will be organised again in September 2020, please call Singapore Centre for Education (+855 96 468 7858).

An International Education In The Village Of Kampong Chhnang (Cambodia)

It is common knowledge that international schools are not established in villages and rural areas.  Yet in a peaceful village of Kampong Chhnang province, a new international was established in late 2019.  It is called Emaan International School (EIS).
Emaan International School

According to Chairman of EIS Board, a Singaporean by the name of Mr Kahliab, the school was established to provide the villagers with the unique opportunity of getting international and quality education at an affordable price. EIS offers both the Khmer national curriculum and the Cambridge academic programme. "A mastery of the English language and a modern approach to learning can provide our students with a bridge to future opportunities from overseas.  So, at Emaan International School, it is our goal that by the time our students graduate from our school, they are fluent and confident in English. That's a must!" Mr Kahliab emphasised.

Mr Kahliab

Although students pay school fees to attend school, some orphans and needy students receive scholarships from Emaan Foundation Cambodia. "No child should be left behind. Money should not hinder anyone from getting a good education. So, if you face financial difficulties, talk to us. We might be able to help you."

So spread the word to Cambodians that in the village of Chro Romeat is a school which cares for the common villagers, willing to subsidize their children's education and open the educational doors to the world for them. Emaan International School.

Education In Cambodia During The Covid-19 Pandemic

Happy EIS Students

Covid-19 shocked the world and caused schools all over the world to close. It is not different in Cambodia. Schools are not allowed to operate. However, recently,  although students can no longer go to school, teachers are allowed to visit students and teach them. After requesting permission from the Ministry of Education,  teachers from  Emaan International School started to visit our students this week. The students were very happy to meet the teachers.
